LIBERTY – During the March 2nd Liberty Town Board meeting, the board addressed the Swan Lake Wastewater treatment plant and discussed community concerns about a potential traffic change in Parksville.
The board approved multiple measures related to the Swan Lake Sewer District, including authorizing repairs to a recirculation pump at the wastewater treatment plant. The repair project carries a maximum estimated cost of $61,500 and will be funded through the sewer districts’ capital reserve fund.
The board also voted to award the repair contract to a low bidder and authorized the supervisor to complete the necessary paperwork to start the project.
The town board also retained Delaware Engineering to review bids and oversee the pump repair project, as well as assist with the engineering work related to compliance requirements following a violation notice issued earlier this year by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
The board also approved submission of an interim report to the DEC outlining steps the town is taking to address the issue.
Board members also discussed the possibility of applying for grant funding for sewer infrastructure improvements. A motion was approved authorizing the supervisor to submit a grant application seeking up to $1 million for improvements at the Swan Lake Sewer Plant.
During the meeting, residents spoke with the town board requesting to convert a portion of Main Street in Parksville to a one-way street, running westbound from the intersection of Short Street towards Old Route 17 in hopes to slow down traffic and improve safety.
Board members agreed that before any decision could be made that residents living directly on Main Street should be contacted to determine if they support the proposal as it would affect how they enter and exit their driveways.
The concern was tabled to allow additional outreach to the residents.
