LIBERTY — The Town of Liberty will receive $2.365 million in state funding to renovate its summer camp facilities and expand programming at Hanofee Park.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Assemblymember Paula Elaine Kay announced the funding during a July 21 visit to the park as part of Heastie’s annual statewide tour.

The allocation includes $1 million to renovate the basketball court and dock and another $1 million to improve the swimming pool, pickleball courts and tennis courts.

An additional $250,000 will be used to update the kiddie pool, while $100,000 will fund the purchase of a bus to transport children to and from camp. The remaining $15,000 will pay for basketball hoop nets and scholarships for children attending the program.

Town of Liberty Supervisor Frank DeMayo said the town was thrilled to receive the funding and thanked Heastie for visiting the camp to observe its activities and facilities.

“We extend our sincere thanks to the Speaker of the New York Assembly, Carl Heastie, for taking time out of his busy schedule on July 21 to come visit the camp,” DeMayo said in a written statement.

DeMayo also credited Kay with supporting communities throughout the 100th Assembly District and giving personal attention to the needs of her constituents.

“She represents what it truly means to be a public servant,” DeMayo said.

The Town of Liberty’s day camp serves children between the ages of 5 and 13 and offers a variety of recreational and educational activities while school is out for the summer.

“It was great to be with Assemblymember Kay today visiting the Town of Liberty’s Summer Camp at Hanofee Park,” Heastie said. “Programs like this summer camp give children a safe place to learn and grow and have fun, and give parents peace of mind that their child is in good hands.”

Kay thanked Heastie for visiting the district and supporting programs for local children.

“The Town of Liberty’s Summer Camp at Hanofee Park provides fun and educational programming for kids here in Liberty while school is out,” Kay said.
