Liberty reorganizes for new year

LIBERTY — Board Members in the town of Liberty kicked off the new year with their annual reorganizational meeting on Monday evening. 

All meetings of the town, planning and zoning boards will take place at the Liberty Senior Center at 119 North Main Street. Town Board meetings will take place on the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. and the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. When a regularly scheduled meeting falls on a holiday, that meeting will take place the following Tuesday. 

Planning Board meetings take place the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m and Zoning Board meetings convene on the third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.

Boardmembers voted unanimously to designate the Sullivan County Democrat as the official newspaper of the Town of Liberty.

After designating custodial and depository banks, board members reappointed Cheryl Gerow as the town’s budget officer. 

Joanne Gerow was reappointed to another one-year term as town dog control officer. There was no appointment for a deputy dog control officer. 

Jacob Billig was reappointed as assistant town attorney. 

Zoning Board 

Robert Werlau was appointed as zoning board chairman for a term of one year. Kyle Farrand was appointed as a zoning board member for a term ending on December 31, 2027. Ari Halpern and Brad Cobert were each appointed as alternate zoning board members for a term of one year. 

Planning Board 

Lynn Dowe was reappointed to the Town of Liberty Planning Board for a one-year term. Branden Reeves was reappointed as a planning board member for a term expiring on December 31, 2027. 

Menachem Steinberg and Eugene Thalman were both appointed to one-year terms as alternate planning board members. 

Other Appointments 

Linda Darnell-DeWitt was reappointed to the Parks and Recreation Board for a term ending on December 31, 2027. 

Regarding the town’s Employee Relations Committees, Steven Schroeder and Andrew Bivins were appointed on behalf of the Highway Department. Sunsoree Young and Dawn Bilancione were appointed on behalf of the Town Hall staff. Kevin Delaney was appointed to represent the Department of Parks and Recreation. Lastly, Evan Decker and Wayne Banks were appointed on behalf of the town’s Water and Sewer Department.
