LM-R Central School District voters elect first board

LIVINGSTON MANOR, ROSCOE — The first Board of Education for the newly formed Livingston Manor-Roscoe Central School District was elected on Thursday, February 20, with 759 total ballots cast.

The newly elected board members were sworn in during an organizational meeting on Tuesday, February 25, at 6:30 p.m. in Livingston Manor, they are as follows:

James Buck, Ed Gorr, and Tasse Niforatos – terms ending June 30, 2028

Roy Rogers and Gary Dahlman – terms ending June 30, 2027

Nicole Park and Chris Tuleweit – terms ending June 30, 2026

The initial term lengths were determined by vote totals, with James Buck receiving the highest number of votes at 405, followed by Ed Gorr (345), Tasse Niforatos (339), Roy Rogers (332), Gary Dahlman (325), Nicole Park (320) and Chris Tuleweit (320). 

Following this initial term cycle, future board members will serve full three-year terms beginning July 1 after their election.

Public hearing on  tax exemptions

Prior to the organizational meeting, a public hearing on local tax exemptions will be held at 6:15 p.m. With the dissolution of the Livingston Manor and Roscoe central school districts, all existing tax exemptions will sunset. 

The newly formed board must approve new exemptions, and residents will need to reapply by the March 1 deadline. Community members are encouraged to contact their local assessor for details on the application process.

Next steps for the new district

The newly elected board will oversee crucial decisions shaping the future of the district. Key tasks to be addressed before the official July 1 transition include:

Selecting an official district name, school colors, and mascot

Determining building use and grade configurations

Appointing attorneys, architects, auditors, insurance providers, and school officers

Approving transportation contracts and designating official banks and newspapers
