Local History Festival presentation to be held Sept. 25

WHITE MILLS, PA - Dr. S. Robert Powell, Director of the Carbondale Historical Society, will open the 2021 Local History Festival on Saturday, September 25, with a program entitled “The PCC/D&H Hawley Basin: A Closer Look, with an Introduction to the Legal Battle between the D&H and the Pennsylvania Coal Company.” The Powell Lecture is from 10-11 a.m., and Exhibits, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Masks and social distancing required.

Dr. Powell is an internationally known specialist in the gravity railroad; his presentation will begin at 10 am, followed at 11 by exhibits from a variety of local historical organizations, including the Wayne County and Equinunk Historical Societies. Displayed outside the exhibit hall will be the Spencer Steam Tractor, recently restored by the Wayne County Historical Society.

The Local History Festival is a free presentation of the Local History Roundtable; the venue is the Dorflinger Factory Museum at the blinking light on Route 6, White Mills, PA.
