Losses

There are many types of losses- some more serious than others. Lately I seem to be getting more than my share. A dear friend of mine recently confided  in me that she has recently been diagnosed with dementia. Suddenly my minor losses slipped out of my mind. I felt a new perspective. What could I do to help her?  When I called her a couple of days later, she told me that she now had something different but she couldn’t think of what it was.  Together we determined that it was Alzheimers. She said that she missed getting together with her friends at church. One huge asset that my friend, Mary has is her husband, Joe. They have been married for many years and he has stuck by her through thick and thin. Then because of what was going on in my life, I missed the annual church picnic but who remembered to go was my friend, Mary. She was sorry that she hadn’t called me to remind me. That was an especially important one because it was the last one that was held in our current quarters. We will soon be moving to a new location. Pictures were taken of the group who remembered to show up. On bulletin boards in the hallways there are still pictures of people who have passed away. Those are huge losses and on Saturday I will be attending a memorial service for one of them.

Not too long ago I attended a memorial service for Herb Ouida who managed to survive being in one of the towers of the World Trade Center when they got hit  but then years later got killed crossing Kinderkamack Rd. to go to a diner.

I’ve lost material things through carelessness and theft, trees from storms and from the tree Commission of all places, which I’ve written about before, friends due to misunderstandings, family members and pets due to death, and loss of time due to poor planning. Here’s hoping you readers do not suffer any serious losses currently.
