Timmy Mills Memorial Tournament brings community together

MONGAUP VALLEY — Local softball players from Sullivan County and beyond gathered at Collins Memorial Park on November 4 for the Timmy Mills Memorial Tournament.

The tournament started at 8 a.m. and the final game concluded after 1 a.m., more than 15 hours of softball later.

Darders Busch, the team that Tim’s brother Mike Mills played on, earned a walk-off win in game three of the championship after a 5-run comeback in the 7th to win.

In a poetic turn of events, Mikey was the game-winning run in the final game to send the team home with the victory.

Derwin Rivera and Barbara Merton, both avid softball players in Sullivan County, organized the tournament.

“On behalf of the Mills family, I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude for the love and support that we have received at this time in our lives,” Tim Mills said. Timmy’s father continued, “The GoFundMe and private support from locals has been overwhelming, and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.”

Tim stood along the third base line cheering on the players throughout the day, briefly giving a speech to all the gathered teams between games early in the evening as the sun was setting and the lights came on.

“I want to give a special thank you to Collins Park for taking us in like family. Both my sons have played here, and I want them to be specially recognized.”

If you missed out on the softball tournament, another fundraiser for the Mills family is being held on December 10 at the Rockland House for Timmy’s birthday. A raffle will be drawn at the event that includes two guns and a bow.
