LIBERTY – Sullivan County District 6 Legislator Luis Alvarez has been appointed to six committees of the National Association of Counties (NACo).
NACo President George Dunlap this month notified Alvarez of his appointment, following prior service on the national advocacy organization’s Advisory Council on Immigration and Intergovernmental Affairs, Large Urban County Caucus, Programs and Services Standing Committee, Rural Action Caucus, and Veterans and Military Services Advisory Council. Alvarez will now join the Health Policy Steering Committee.
“You have been selected for this role because of your unwavering commitment and exemplary dedication to NACo,” wrote Clark in Alvarez’s appointment letter. “Our greatest strength lies in the engagement of our members, and your active participation and leadership are vital to ensuring that we remain the united voice of America’s counties.”
Alvarez has served on a host of NACo committees since he began participating with the organization in 2017, when he was Chair of the Sullivan County Legislature. A longtime (now retired) Sheriff’s deputy, Alvarez also sits on the board of the NYS Association of Counties (NYSAC) and is a member of the National Association of Hispanic County Officials.
“I strongly believe in NACo’s mission and am proud to represent Sullivan County at the national level,” Alvarez related. “I remain committed to my neighbors as their legislator, but it’s important to recognize that we’re part of a larger system of government that constantly needs review and improvement.”
