MAMAKATING – There was optimism in the air Tuesday afternoon as the Town of Mamakating approved the Reorganization Resolution of Appointments, Authorizations and Designations for 2026, welcoming two new faces and reappointing three familiar ones.
The resolutions for appointments and re-appointments were as follows:
• Michael Toledo was appointed as a Zoning Board of Appeals member
• Robert Bartels was re-appointed to the Zoning Board as an alternate
• Lorrence Green was re-appointed as a Planning Board member
• Eric Halahan was re-appointed as a Planning Board alternate
• Anthony Fellow was appointed to the Sullivan County Fire Advisory Board for 2026
• Agreements with the Humane Society of Walden, the Humane Society of Middletown, and the Humane Society Port Jervis/Deerpark were all unanimously approved
A new supervisor with a familiar face; Goodman lays out goals
Excited to get started with his first meeting, Mamakating’s new supervisor, Peter Goodman, thanked the public who supported the board for many years. He acknowledged that the mostly same as the previous administration town board had been working together for four years.
Goodman also drew attention to a new face in the ranks: Ward 4 Councilman Robert Rogers.
“[He served as] vice-president and president full time [of the Yankee Lake Board of Directors]. I know he’ll be an asset to the Town Board,” stated Goodman. “I’m very much looking forward to working with him.”
He also thanked all the staff in the town for doing a “tremendous job” in keeping everything going smoothly, highlighting the Town Board’s ability to work well in a bipartisan fashion. Goodman affirmed his goal to keep it going like that, then try to get “as much engagement from the public as possible.”
“I think that we’re here to serve the public and take care of the town,” assessed Goodman. “Whatever I can do to help further that cause, I’m looking forward to doing it, and I know the board will be there with me.”
Goodman also extended a special thanks to Michael Robbins, who had previously held the seat of Town Supervisor. He credited Robbins as having helped him through the transition and showing him the way. He encouraged a round of applause from meeting attendees, which they responded to.
“I also want to thank you all who are out there. You come to the meetings… the public getting involved is probably the most important thing, and we’d like to make sure we represent it.”
