ROSCOE –– Chapel Field drove out to Roscoe for a girls soccer game against a combined Manor and Roscoe team. It was a great day for a tough matchup. While it started as a long stalemate, eventually Manor would pick up the pace.
The first half was a high intensity back and forth with neither team able to find the goal. Both teams had very good defense near the goal. However, slowly but surely, Manor started chipping away at Chapel Field’s defense and the Wildcats took control.
With 7 minutes left in the half, Kelsey Ryder sprinted downfield to get open where Anastasia Niforatos found her and with a perfectly placed pass she was able to score the first goal. The rest of the half passed uneventfully with Manor up 1-0 going into halftime.
Manor pressed on the gas hard in the second half. For the first 15 minutes Chapel Field couldn’t even get the ball past midfield without the Wildcats stealing it. Manor was again getting really close to scoring but couldn’t break through until midway through the half when Rebecca Gashinski sailed a penalty kick just out of the goalie’s reach to put Manor up 2-0. That seemed to break the dam. Kelsey Ryder scored again off a breakaway pass from teammate Anastasia Niforatos. Following that Gashinski scored again off a deep goal after juking through multiple defenders for the final goal of the game.
Manor would top Chapel Field 4-0.
