MONGAUP VALLEY –– McDowall Electric became the Sullivan County Women’s Softball League “B” Division Champions after defeating the Warriors Tuesday night at Collins Field in Mongaup Valley. This was their second win in as many nights after winning game one 27-7 on Monday.

McDowall was firing on all cylinders from the beginning. Caroline Martin, the first batter of the game, lined a ball deep into left center field and raced around the bases for an inside the park home run. McDowall jumped out to an early 7-0 lead before the Warriors had a chance to bat. The Warriors answered with five runs of their own in the bottom of the first, but the two run differential would be as close as the game got all night.

McDowall continued to add to their lead throughout the game, while their defense held the Warriors at 5 until the 6th inning. Mareena DiMilia and Ashley Johnson both added to the lead with home runs of their own, and by the end of the 5th inning the score was 20-5 in favor of McDowall Electric, the team formerly sponsored by Bum & Kels for several years.

When the Warriors came up to the plate in the sixth inning, McDowall had increased their lead to 19. The Warriors were able to bring home a pair of runs in the inning but it wouldn’t be enough and McDowall ended up with a 24-7 victory to win the championship and conclude the league’s 47th season.

McDowall Electric’s coach, Peter DiMilia, discussed the importance of having a good time on and off the field. “Win, lose, or draw, fun comes first with this team. We’ve got 20 players on the team, and we’ve had a lot of mother-daughter combos throughout the year, and everyone gets to play.”
