SULLIVAN COUNTY — What better time than now to write your story!? Welcome back Penelope Ghartey for a Memoir Writing Group. We will meet in person every other Wednesday at 2pm at the Delaware Free Branch (February 7th and 21st). This is a group in which we will share our writings, so please come prepared if possible. New and seasoned writers are welcome!

First-time Memoirists will enjoy exercises to help them find memoir-worthy stories. They’ll learn to evaluate and group these stories to find a structure, narrative thread or theme. Finally, they’ll produce a stand-alone mini-memoir consisting of three to four pieces.

Intermediate Memoirists will evaluate the pieces they have written to find common characters, time frames, or themes. Study different ways of integrating the stories, such as flashbacks, alternate chapters or narrative voice. Finally, begin a trial manuscript incorporating one or more of the ways you plan to structure the memoir.

Penelope Ghartey is a local resident and Ph.D. Educator with more than 20 years of experience teaching Literature and Writing at High Schools, Colleges, Universities, and Personal Writing Workshops.

For more information, e-mail wsplprograms@rcls.org or call the library at (845) 887-4040. Visit our calendar at www.wsplonline.org to register for this workshop.
