Mimi McGurl presents “Queer Gardening” at HPAC

Posted

HURLEYVILLE - Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre (HPAC) is thrilled to host local theatre director and landscape gardener Mimi McGurl for a presentation of Queer Gardening: an exploration of queerness and sexual identity, as they relate to gardening and plant life.

McGurl's talk will investigate how queerness manifests in the art of gardening. Beginning with some basic science about the mating habits of flowers, the talk will then consider the range of flowers historically associated with gay and lesbian identity, and will end with a re-imagining of the biblical Garden of Eden.

“With its new outdoor space, HPAC is the perfect location for a gardening talk,” says Executive Director Erin Dudly. “Attendees can arrive early and take a walk on the Rail to Trail, then relax on the patio of the Tango Cafe with refreshments and an enlightening program.”

This outdoor, in-person event will take place Sunday, June 13 at 2 p.m. EDT. Queer Gardening will run 40 minutes in total. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are $10 and can be found at hurleyvilleartscentre.org.
