Monticello Police Chief Mir abruptly resigns from post

Posted

MONTICELLO – The Village of Monticello Police Chief Robert Mir resigned effective immediately late last week, with the resignation being confirmed by Village Mayor George Nikolados on Monday, January 22.

Robert Mir has served as the police chief for the Village of Monticello for over a decade. The reason behind this sudden departure remains unclear. According to published reports, there are suggestions that Mir had been operating on an expired employment contract for an extended period of time.

Prior to his position as the Village of Monticello Police Chief, Mir had served as the Police Chief for the neighboring Village of Liberty.

Recently named as Acting Chief of the Monticello Village Police Force is seasoned law enforcement veteran, Lieutenant Mark Johnstone. With a notable thirty-year career in the police force and prior experience with the department.

Additionally, Nikolados had emphasized the importance of addressing and consulting with the Village Board prior to finalizing any official appointments for a permanent position within the village, highlighting the need for proper discussion and consideration in this process.
