Neversink Parks and Rec to use canceled camp grant for Holiday Mountain Ski Program

Director floats idea of bus trips

NEVERSINK — Parks and Recreation Director Tanya Huggler is hard at work preparing for the department’s first End of Summer Celebration, as she detailed at last Wednesday night’s Town Board meeting.

In partnership with the Sullivan County Youth Bureau, the event is planned to take place on August 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Route 42 Park and will be funded through grant money. Families can expect a full lineup of activities, including bounce houses, Gaga Ball, food, music and more.

Looking ahead to winter, Huggler noted that the department is collaborating with Sullivan 180 to re-purpose funds from the canceled Summer Camp toward a Ski Program at Holiday Mountain. The announcement drew a few enthusiastic reactions from those in attendance.

“I have gotten a lot of requests from many adults in the community asking for bus trips,” Huggler noted.

She explained that as long as the trips are not subsidized by the town, but rather paid for by participants, she would like to organize them with the board’s approval. Town Supervisor Chris Mathews voiced his support.

“I shared my feelings and I think it’s amazing that it’s paid for. It’s a wonderful thing,” stated Mathews. “Awesome. Who could argue with that?”

Councilperson Rick Coombe lightheartedly dubbed Mathews “Mr. Bus Trip,” noting that the rest of the board was also on board with the idea.
