Neversink Parks and Rec Youth Bureau Grant re-approved

Denman Mountain Triangle to see a fix-up

NEVERSINK  — The Town of Neversink Parks and Recreation Department is planning a series of youth-focused events for August, Parks and Rec Director Tanya Huggler announced during Wednesday night’s Town Board meeting.

Huggler said the department has secured funding through the Youth Bureau Grant, which supports programming aimed at positive youth development. The grant will cover the cost of bounce houses and evening activities for children and teens, culminating in a day trip to Zoom Flume Water Park.

“That will all be paid for by the Youth Bureau Grant,” Huggler confirmed.

In addition, a Back to School Bash is scheduled for late August at Route 42 Park. The event will include bounce houses, food, and games aimed at helping children get excited for the upcoming school year.

Town Clerk Staci Conjura pointed out that the event coincides with AYSO’s soccer lease and that coordination will be needed to avoid scheduling conflicts.

Denman Mountain Road Triangle to see improvements

Highway Superintendent Preston Kelly mentioned discussions (which included Town Supervisor Chris Mathews) over the triangle at the base of Denman Mountain Road. He clarified that this is the triangle with the tiered flower beds and the tie walls which were “pretty well shot”.

“Thanks to [Councilperson] Ric [Coombe] and the donation of nice stone that we got, I was curious if you’d like us to go in there and take those tie walls out and lay stone in there and put them [walls] back,” explained Kelly.

Reminiscing, Coombe explained some background that it was originally an FFA project he had worked on. Kelly also confirmed that he worked on it,too, during his senior year in high school.

Councilperson Nicole Gorr confirmed that the improvements “sound great”.
