Nikolados, Rue, Banks to run as Independent for Village Board

MONTICELLO – In the upcoming Village Board of Elections on Tuesday, March 19, Mayor George Nikolados of Monticello and Trustees Carmen Rue and Michael Banks will be seeking re-election as members under the Independent electoral ticket.

These recent developments have arisen as a result of the disqualification of the three individuals who sought to run for re-election on the Democratic line on the ballot. As stated by Nikolados, it has been determined that there were an insufficient number of signatures on their petition in order for them to be included on the official ballot.

In light of the current circumstances, it is Nikolados’ personal belief that there may be a potential advantage. Specifically, he believes that his campaign will benefit greatly from having Trustee Carmen Rue and Trustee Michael Banks as part of his team. Their involvement provides him with a strategic edge that could positively impact the outcome of the campaign.

“If you go to the primary and you’re on a mixed ballot, you would not be with people you want to run with,” said Nikolados.

In addition to serving as a Trustee on the Village Board, Rochelle Massey has recently filed petitions to run for mayor on the Democratic line. It has been reported that she will be challenging incumbent Nikolados for the Village Mayoral position. As of now, there is a possibility that Massey may be the only candidate listed on the ballot.

Furthermore her husband, Gordon Jenkins, who currently holds the role of Village Trustee, has extensive experience and knowledge of the position, having previously served as Village Mayor several years ago.

In the event that Massey assumes the position of Mayor, the board majority will promptly decide on her replacement.
