LIVINGSTON MANOR — The Wildcats had a roller coaster of an opening week. Their season began on the road, taking on Chester at The Rock Sports Complex on Wednesday afternoon, where they lost handily to the MHAL squad. They bounced back on Thursday afternoon in their home opener as they hosted the Fallsburg Comets and won 18-0.

Anthony Zamenick toed the rubber for the Wildcats in his first start of the season. Despite two first inning walks, Zamenick worked a scoreless inning, which included a play at the plate for the second out.

Zamenick ended the inning with his first strikeout of the afternoon.

In the home half of the first, the Wildcats put up five runs, drawing four walks, a hit by pitch and two singles in the inning.

Fallsburg pitcher Nick Storms made all three outs in the inning, including a 1-3 double play on a line drive back to the pitcher and a ground ball that he tossed to first to end the inning.

Zamenick went back to work in the second, opening with a strikeout looking before back-to-back walks.

The lead runner was tagged out trying to advance to third for the second out and Zamenick ended the inning with a strikeout.

The Wildcats kept their offense going in the second inning, plating an additional eight runs to take a 13-0 lead.

The runs came in bunches as the Comets’ pitchers struggled to shake the rust off. After a single and two walks loaded the bases and a strikeout for the first out, the Wildcats drew three bases loaded walks to earn runs before an RBI single from Logan Thomas returned the team to the top of the order.

Zamenick popped out for an infield fly for the second out, but four additional walks inflated the score.

On the mound, Zamenick settled in, striking out the side in the third, fourth and fifth. The Wildcats’ offense added a few insurance runs in the third and fourth, but it was Zamenick’s ten consecutive strikeouts to end the game that helped secure the win for Livingston Manor.

“Overall, we had a fundamentally clean game,” explained Livingston Manor coach Dylan Smith. “The team has come a long way since last year. We’re looking forward to the rest of the season and our upcoming Cooperstown game on April 29.”

Fallsburg was scheduled to play Liberty yesterday and they host Eldred tomorrow.

Livingston Manor is on the road at Tri-Valley this afternoon.
