CALLICOON – The Republican candidate for New York Governor rolled into Callicoon Saturday afternoon, asking for his party faithful to get out the vote.
“I want you to get your phones out and call 50 of your contacts,” Blakeman told the three dozen residents who showed up at the Delaware Community Center in Callicoon. “And don’t stop calling until Election Day.”
In the past gubernatorial election Blakeman said, “we didn’t get out the vote. We need to get out the vote [this year]. If we have a big turnout, we will have a big victory.”
Blakeman also had another ask.
“I need money,” he said. “I need your endorsement.”
Blakeman said his campaign needs to spend $380,000 a day in advertising to compete against incumbent Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul.
He thanked the crowd for their generous support on Saturday.
“Both my parents were World War II veterans,” Blakeman said. “They said my mother didn’t want to miss a good fight. I take after her, I’m a fighter.”
Nassau County Executive Blakeman has been taking his message across the state and Saturday was the third time he’s been in Sullivan County this campaign season.
New York State Senator Peter Oberacker, who is running for Congress against Josh Riley, introduced Blakeman on Saturday.
“It’s so important to get out and support Bruce. He’s everywhere,” Oberacker said. “Get the message out, Bruce Blakeman will represent all, not just tax and spend – or grab and go.”
Town of Callicoon Supervisor Tom Bose, who is the Chair of the Town of Callicoon Republican Committee, agreed with Blakeman.
“We need to get more people out to vote,” Bose said. “We need a large turnout – from both parties. I would love to see 60 to 70 percent [of the registered voters vote].”
Town of Delaware Republican Committee Chair Ian Blumenthal said, “We need complete change in our system.”
He said he was endorsing Blakeman because he would take away the mandates our current governor has imposed on the electrical supply.
“Blakeman will make it [electric] more affordable,” Blumenthal said.
“As I travel from one end of this state to the other, people are miserable under Kathy Hochul,” Blakeman said. “New York is the highest taxed state in America.”
Blakeman said people are leaving New York because of the high cost of living.
“All economic activity is gone,” he said. “I will cut your utility bill in half.”
He also promised to create economic activity, saying jobs bring prosperity.
“We need good jobs with good benefits,” he said.
Blakeman also criticized the Hochul administration for spending “$8 billion of your money on people who are not New Yorkers and not U.S. Citizens.
“Think of what that money could have been used for,” he said. “Immigration is a good thing, but it has to be done the right way.
“That is what this race is all about,” Blakeman said. “Saving our state, saving our country.”
