MONTICELLO — Village of Monticello Police responded to a 911 call Sunday morning in report of a disturbance at the Horizons Apartment Complex at Harmony Lane.
The female caller reported of a male violently abusing a young dog in one of the apartments.
According to the police, upon arriving at the scene, the woman was quoted as stating “he’s abusing the dog.”
They then heard an audible cry of pain coming from the dog, named Cassidy, in the bathroom.
They found 34-year-old Brooklyn resident Rawle A. Reynolds emerging from the bathroom, leaving behind a “severely injured” dog that was reported to be bleeding. Reynolds was arrested and charged with the felony of Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal.
In anticipation of additional court proceedings, he was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail after being arraigned to the Village Court by Village Justice Douglas Solomon.
According to police, Reynolds has a past felony conviction for robbery and is still on state parole until July 2029.
Joanne Gerow of the Animal Control Office received the injured dog, who is presently receiving veterinarian care in the Emergency Animal Hospital in Middletown.
She discovered that Cassidy had a “huge laceration” on the top of his skull. In addition, she stated via published reports that Cassidy also had a cervical fracture in his neck, as well as a fractured front leg and jaw.
According to published reports, she remains hopeful for Cassidy’s recovery.
