ULLIVAN COUNTY – The Eldred Yellowjackets had off last weekend due to a forfeit. They’re scheduled to play tonight at 7 pm on the road against Cairo-Durham. After having homefield advantage in their first two games of the season, we’ll see how the 1-1 Yellowjackets fare on the road.
Last weekend, Liberty was defeated 35-6 by a tough Saugerties Sawyers team, but there was a major bright side to the loss. In the fourth quarter, Riley Cox of Liberty recovered a Saugerties fumble and ran it in 95 yards to put the Redhawks on the board. The Redhawks are scheduled to play Port Jervis in an away matchup tonight at 7 pm.
In a highly competitive game, the Monticello Panthers fell short against Spackenkill. After four quarters, the score was even at 24, sending the game into overtime. At the final buzzer, Spackenkill came out on top, winning the game 30-24. “Our Monti team made huge strides in an incredible game against Spackenkill! Our passing offense finally started clicking despite missed opportunities and simple mistakes. Defensively, we were more physical and showed improved tackling. Most importantly, we found our confidence,” said Monticello head coach Adam Rosenbarker.
“Hats off to Spack for their comeback at the very end. We will work on eliminating mistakes and will keep our growth and momentum rolling this Saturday [at 1 pm] as we have a revenge game against Burke.”
The Rockland Wolves are scheduled to step back onto the field tonight at 7 pm against the Pine Plains Bombers in an away matchup. Both of these teams will be looking to grab their first win of the season.
The Pawling Tigers defeated the Sullivan West Bulldogs 61-32, capitalizing on their shot at redemption from last season when the Bulldogs secured a 46-14 win over the Tigers. The Bulldogs face off against the Ellenville Blue Devils in their first home game of the season, on Saturday at 1 pm. “This is our first home game of the season. We want to get off to a fairly good start and improve on a few of our mistakes. We’re looking to have a good game,” said veteran head coach Ron Bauer.
Tri-Valley fell short in its first home game of the season last weekend against Taconic Hills but the Bears’ quarterback James Kachelriess ran for a 40-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to put TV on the board. The Bears are off this weekend due to a forfeit by the Fallsburg Comets. We’ll be looking forward to a matchup of two local favorites as the Bears and Yellowjackets prepare to meet in early October.
