WOODRIDGE – Woodridge Police in conjunction with the New York State Police arrested Carlos Gutierrez of Monticello for leaving the scene of an accident, a Class D felony, after a hit-and-run accident that occurred outside the Village of Woodridge Town Hall on August 26.

The accident resulted in the death of Woodridge resident Ronald Kates, a past member of the Woodridge Fire Department and former Trustee of the Village of Woodridge.

“Ronald was a true staple of the Woodridge community and dedicated much of his life to serving others,” the Woodridge Fire Department said in a statement. “His loss is a tremendous tragedy, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

Woodridge Police said Gutierrez was arraigned in front of Judge David Maho in Woodridge Village Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
