WOODBOURNE – Learn the steps to help a Veteran in need with Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR): Suicide Prevention Training.

Action Toward Independence (ATI) and Vet 2 Vet of Sullivan County are offering their first preventative training session to service members, veterans, and their families on Thursday, February 9 from 6-7 p.m. at the Woodbourne Firehouse, 355 Rt. 52.

The training is estimated to be an hour long and completely free to attend.

ATI Veteran Peer Service Coordinator Ryan Fuller said that it is no secret that the Veteran suicide rate is pretty high, and that it is important for everyone to know the signs of someone needing help and be able to take appropriate action.

Fuller likened the QPR training to that of CPR training – a vital lesson on first responding to Veterans’ mental health crisis and ensuring that those around to assist know exactly what to do to handle certain situations.

In addition to this training, ATI and Vet 2 Vet of Sullivan County offer many other free services to veterans and their families, including a service dog program. To learn more about ATI and what they offer, check out their website at www.atitoday.org.

Registration is required to attend; to do so please call (845) 794-4228.
