CALLICOON — Sightings of smoke at the Villa Roma Resort’s main hotel building prompted a response from multiple fire departments on Monday, January 15.

An overheated belt from a heating unit located on the roof was the source of the smoke, which was detected after it seeped into the second floor of the building.

At 5:15 p.m., the fire call went out and was answered by nearly 36 firefighters of the Hortonville Fire Department, the Callicoon Fire Department, the Jeffersonville Fire Department and the White Lake FAST Team. The Callicoon Fire Department utilized their ladder truck to access the roof. First responders were at the scene for roughly two hours. Also at the scene was Sullivan County Fire Coordinator, John Hauschild.

There were no injuries or damage reported and employees were allowed to return inside promptly afterward. There were no guests at the hotel.
