Eldred boys win streak ends
LONG ISLAND – It was a busy travel weekend for the Eldred Yellowjackets basketball teams. Both the girls and boys teams traveled to compete in regionals play this
Saturday. Under Coach Bill Furler the Eldred boys won the Section title earlier this
month, and began their regionals run defeating Greenburgh-North Castle last week. In their toughest matchup of the season the Yellowjackets came up short against the
Bridgehampton Killerbees. The Killerbees came out hard going on a 14-0 run early on.
By the end of the second quarter the Yellowjackets were down by 20 points and looking to regroup during the break. The Killerbees held the Yellowjackets to only 3 points
scored in the third quarter and had extended their lead to 51-19. Although Eldred outscored their opponent 18-7 in the final eight minutes, they would suffer a 71-41 season ending “sting” on the Island. The 14-4 Yellowjackets have 7 hopefuls returning for the 25-26 season next year.
Eldred girls show heart
KINGSTON – The Eldred girls basketball team traveled to Kingston High School in Ulster County to take on the Northville Falcons in a Regional contest. After trading baskets in the opening quarter Eldred was behind by only 8 points heading into the second eight minutes of the contest. With a quick eight-point run the Falcons had increased their lead to 16, forcing the Yellowjackets into a timeout.
It was a 36-11 game with Northville holding the clear advantage at halftime. After the break the Falcons would continue to dominate the game widening their lead as the minutes ticked away. The final 2 quarters were allNorthville as they secured a 74-21 regionals win over Eldred. Olivia Gonzalez of Eldred led her team in scoring with 11 points and teammates Sydney Furler and Victoria Ryman each scored 4 a piece. The Yellowjackets end their season with a record of 6-10.
Despite their tough losses both teams are the 2024-2025 Section IX Class D Champions and NYSPHSAA Regional Finalists!
