MONTICELLO — The Clothesline Project, an annual event organized by Fearless Hudson Valley, Inc. that features shirts bearing the names of victims of domestic abuse, was on exhibit last Thursday at the Government Center.
It serves as a somber reminder of the suffering inflicted on both men and women by intimate partners.
While quietly browsing the exhibit, District 5 Legislator Cat Scott—the chair of the Legislature’s Health & Human Services Committee—jotted down the names of homicide victims she personally knew.
“I’ve known so many people who have been victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and two locals - Jailyn Flecha and Elizabeth Mucci - who lost their lives,” Scott said.
“Those that survived still bear the scars today – be they physical, mental or emotional. That’s why The Clothesline Project is so important, and why it’s just as important to mount this display in the heavily-used lobby of the County Government Center.”
“Everyone should see these messages of pain, of suffering, but also of hope and resilience. Survivors need their entire community to support them, and I want them to know we will always be there for them, no matter what.”
