Rep. Molinaro secures federal funding for water infrastructure upgrades

LIBERTY — U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) today announced federal funding is being delivered to the Village of Greene in Chenango County to upgrade its water systems and to the Village of Woodridge in Sullivan County to make improvements to its Wastewater Treatment Plant.

These funds are available through the U.S Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development (USDA) Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants Program. In Congress, Rep. Molinaro serves on the House Agriculture Committee, which has oversight over the USDA. He also specifically advocated for funding for the Village of Greene’s water system improvements project.

With the funds, the Village of Greene will replace the water mains, the majority of which are over 100 years old. It will also replace fire hydrants and update water meters. The project will provide safe and reliable water service to the village’s residents, businesses, and visitors.

The Town of Woodridge will use the funds to make upgrades and repairs to its waste water treatment plant. There is currently a need to expand the plant to meet current demands and account for future growth.

Rep. Molinaro said, “These are necessary water infrastructure upgrades, and I’m happy to have helped secure federal funds to make this happen. The upgrades will help preserve access to clean drinking water and contribute to sustainable growth for these communities.”

Jessup DuMond, Mayor of the Village of Greene said, “The Village of Greene is grateful for this funding, and we look forward to updating the water infrastructure in our Village to last another 100 years. We continue to pursue additional funding to ensure success. We are encouraged by the support and interest expressed by the office of Congressman Molinaro, and look forward to hosting the Congressman here in the Village in spring 2024.”

Joan Collins, Mayor of the Village of Woodridge said, “The Village of Woodridge gratefully appreciates the assistance of the offices of Sen Gillibrand, Sen Schumer and Congressman Molinaro in obtaining a grant and low interest loan to upgrade our waste water treatment plant. The Village is growing and the financial assistance will go a long way to accommodate the well-being and needs of our residents.”
