Republican Committee endorses Schiff for Sullivan County Sheriff

Posted

CALLICOON – The Sullivan County Republican Committee held its nominating convention on Wednesday at the Villa Roma Resort and Conference Center in Callicoon.

At the meeting, incumbent Sheriff Michael Schiff received the majority of the 14,000 weighted votes to win the committee’s endorsement for Sheriff.

“We let each candidate speak to the committee and the voting went extremely well,” Sullivan County Republican Party Chair Greg Goldstein said. “Of the approximately 14,000 weighted votes we have, just over 12,000 were cast either in person or by proxy. It was a great turnout.”

Goldstein said that while Schiff “is our sponsored candidate” he expected announced candidate Tim Dymond to challenge him in the Republican Primary on June 24.

“Mike [Schiff] now has the Conservative and Republican endorsements,” Goldstein said. “Our meeting went well.”

In the Sullivan County Treasurer’s race, Goldstein said, “We did not have a candidate for Treasurer.”

Murran appointed new Elections Commissioner

“The Republican Committee also appointed Deputy Commissioner Pam Murran as the new Republican Commissioner of Elections,” Goldstein said.

Murran, a 20-year veteran of the Board of Elections, will take over from Republican Elections Commissioner Lori Benjamin, who is retiring in April, Goldstein said.

Murran lives in the Town of Thompson.
