Republican primary to decide fall slate

SULLIVAN – In order to finalize the ballot for this November’s General Election, a number of Republican candidates are facing off in a Primary Election on Tuesday, June 27. 

Beginning tomorrow, early voting for registered Republicans will begin and last through June 25.

Early Polling sites include the Sullivan County Board of Elections Office at the Government Center, 100 North Street in Monticello, and the Sullivan County Public Health Office, 50 Community Lane in Liberty. 

The polls will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on June 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24, and on Tuesday, June 20 and Thursday, June 22 from noon to 5 p.m.

On Primary Day, Tuesday, June 27, voting will take place at your regular polling location  and they will be open across Sullivan County from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.

DA race

The race for the Republication nomination for Sullivan County District Attorney is between registered Republican, Assistant County Attorney Thomas Cawley, and registered Democrat, Acting District Attorney Brian Conaty.

Conaty has already secured the Democratic and Conservative Party endorsement for this November’s General Election.

In addition to the DA primary, a number of other primaries are being held as well, including races for spots on the county committee, state committee, and county legislature.

Legislative primaries

In Legislative District 7, incumbent Legislator Joe Perrello Sr. is facing a contest from John Lacey.

Legislative District 7 includes Town of Fallsburg Election Districts 2, 5, 8, and 9 and Town of Mamakating Wards 2, 3, 4, 5. Ward 2 is Election District 13; Ward 3 is Election Districts 5 and 15;  Ward 4 is Election Districts 16 and 17; and Ward 5 is Election District 10.

In Election District 9, long-time Legislator Alan Sorensen, the Majority Leader, is not seeking re-election.

Two Republicans are facing off for the right to be a candidate in this November’s Election.

Terry L. Blosser-Bernardo is running against Christopher B. Rosa for the Republican nomination.

Legislative District 9 includes Town of Mamakating Wards 1, 4 and 5 and Town of Thompson Election Districts 1, 2, 7 and 8.

In Mamakating, Ward 1 consists of Election Districts 1, 23, and 24; Ward 4 consists of Elections Districts 7 and 8; and Ward 5 consists of Election District 20.

Highland Highway Superintendent

In the Town of Highland, there is currently a vacancy in the Highway Superintend’s position.

Republicans Orson J. Davis Jr. will be running against James Akt for the Republican nomination. 

The winner will face Democratic candidate Joe Barnes in November.

Member of  County Committee

In the Town of Fallsburg. Election District 5, two candidates are being elected to the Republican County Committee.

The four candidates who are running are Robert E. Kirby Jr., Richard R. Gressner Sr., Anthony Perrello and Lori Lindridge.

In the Town of Fallsburg Election District 1, two candidates are being elected to the Republican County Committee.

The four candidates are Jennifer Parisi, John Parisi, Abraham Berkovic, and Ari Grunhut.

In the Town of Neversink Election District 3, two candidates are being elected to the Sullivan County Republican Committee.

The four candidates who are running include, Gene Froelich, Andrew McCabe, Raymond J. Stanishia, Jr. and Raymond A. Stanishia.

Member of  State Committee

In the Town of Neversink, Election District 1 and 3, four candidates are running for two positions on the State Republican Committee, 101st Assembly District.

The four candidates are Richard I. Coombe, Hope Costa, Eric. J. Chaboty and Tammi L. Chaboty.
