Rockland Central: Home of the newly-named ‘Purple and Black’ Wolves

LIVINGSTON MANOR – The Rockland Central School District, recently unified through the merger of the Livingston Manor and Roscoe Central Schools, has adopted its official mascot – the Wolves – and school colors, Purple and Black, following a thorough selection process rooted in community voice and student leadership.

The initiative began with a district-wide call for input, inviting stakeholders to share characteristics that they believed the Rockland CSD mascot should embody. Traits like resilience, strength, unity and pride were consistently recommended. To further engage the community, the district launched two community surveys: one to gather suggestions for school colors and another for mascot ideas.

The school district formed the Rockland Branding Work Group, a committee made up of representatives from student, staff, community, and family stakeholder groups, to lead district branding efforts. The committee reviewed submissions from the surveys and narrowed the options down to two finalists in each category.

In the final phase of the selection process, the district issued a student-only ballot, allowing students to vote for the color combination and mascot they felt best represents their school. Following the vote, the Rockland Central School District Board of Education held a meeting June 10 to formally adopt the new branding, marking a significant milestone in the district’s formation.

Superintendent John Evans stated, “This is an exciting time for our community, especially our students.”

The Rockland Cen-tral School District administration and branding committee will continue to lead the district’s branding initiatives, aiming to unveil an official Rockland Central School District logo ahead of the 2025-26 school year.
