LIVINGSTON MANOR – The Rockland Central School Board of Education welcomed the newly arrived interim superintendent Keith Lewis on Wednesday, December 3, at a business-as-usual monthly meeting.

Lewis took the time to thank the board for welcoming him and expressed his readiness to serve and support the board during his period of employment at Rockland School. During the agenda items, he voiced a few questions as to the scheduling for various half-days as well as asking a few clarification questions on the appointment of a Youth Basketball program coach. He recommended the approval of all budgetary motions.

A high school report given by Adam Larsen highlighted a successful Career Day event, which he hopes to repeat in the future. An athletic report by Chris Hubert featured various student successes in fall season sports, most notably in cross country and girls’ soccer. He noted that many Rockland athletes are showing high performance in academics and other areas.

Special Services representative Lauren Nielsen reported an engaging science project where students are studying the decomposition process of a pumpkin. Robin Francisco reported on a vibrant and well attended afterschool program with many visits from outside community groups and a variety of activities. She said that average daily attendance has been 91 students attending a day, 55 of whom use the shuttle service.

A full crowd of attentive citizens filled the bleachers but submitted no comments during two question periods on the agenda.
