Rodney J. Smith, age 66, of Tyler Hill, passed away on Monday afternoon, April 18, 2022 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center with his family by his side.
Rod was married to the former Christina Weigelt.
Born on November 11, 1955 in Binghamton, NY, he was the son of Doris (Schweighofer) Lewis and the late Harry J. Smith Jr.
He was a 1974 graduate of Damascus High School. Later he graduated from John Rinehart Taxidermy School in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Surviving in addition to his wife Christina Smith are two sons; Joshua Smith and wife Nicole (Vito), Breinigsville, PA, and William Smith, Ennis, Montana; four grandchildren, Lucas Smith, Dominic Smith, Gianna Smith and Alexis Smith; his mother Doris Lewis, Tyler Hill; an aunt Dr. Alice McDonnell, Scranton; two brothers, Ralph Smith and wife Annie, Tyler Hill, and Jeffrey Smith, Ennis, Montana; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He owned and operated Rod’s Taxidermy in Callicoon, NY for over 30 years. Most recently he owned Rod Smith Firewood and was employed by Tyler Hill Camp.
Rod was a life-long resident of Tyler Hill with scores of loyal friends. He was active in local hunting clubs, softball teams and tournaments, and was a championship winning Little League baseball coach with his sons as players. He was a devoted NY Mets fan.
Over the years, Rod enjoyed trips to Montana to hunt and to visit family in Big Sky country.
Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St., Honesdale on Friday, April 22, from 4 to 7. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 23, at 10 am. Internment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Damascus.
