SULLIVAN COUNTY — In partnership with New York State Homes and Community Renewal, RUPCO is administering the Plus One ADU program in Ulster, Orange, Columbia and Sullivan counties.
This opportunity can assist low- to moderate-income property owners with grants of up to $112,500 to construct or rehab code-compliant Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).
An ADU is a secondary, independent residential unit on a single-family home lot, often referred to as an “in-law suite”.
According to RUPCO, these ADUs, in various forms, have the potential to create long-term housing and bring a host of benefits. They can enable family members, including caregivers, to reside on the same property while having their own living spaces, provide housing for a hired caregiver, generate rental income for homeowners, and help older residents remain independent and “age in place.”
Applicants must meet all program requirements, including owning and occupying a residential unit in the county where the ADU will be located (vacation or second homes cannot be considered). In addition, the household gross income (pre-tax) from all sources must not exceed certain thresholds based on family size.
Additional requirements apply; visit www.rupco.org/plusone for county-specific details. Funds are provided by Housing Trust Fund Corporation (HTFC) NYS Homes & Community Renewal (HCR).
“RUPCO is thrilled to partner with our county partners to bring the Plus One ADU program to residents across the Hudson Valley,” said Faith Moore, Senior Vice President of Housing Programs and Solutions. “By providing financial assistance to low- and moderate-income homeowners, we are helping to create much-needed affordable housing but also empowering residents to strengthen their communities and support their families.”
Interested applicants can download an application at www.rupco.org/plusone or call 845-331-2140 x 260.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funding is exhausted.
