SCVA celebrates successful month

May proved to be a very busy month for us here at the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association. We started off the month with our annual Member Brochure Exchange, held in the parking lot of our visitors center in Liberty.

Around 80 member businesses attended the outstanding event, where they had the opportunity to share their brochures with other businesses in the same industry and get their business in front of new potential customers and partners at no cost. The brochure exchange was sponsored by Bold Gold Media, and catering was provided by Mr. Willy’s.

Following our member brochure exchange, we hosted Catskill Cuisine, a food festival at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. The inaugural event drew in around 1,600 people on May 13.

Renowned chefs demonstrated their culinary prowess by offering delicious sampling throughout the day. Live music filled the outdoor stage, and many local restaurants and producers showcased their products. We hope for this to be an annual event, held in the spring each year to attract visitors before the busy summer season begins.

This past week some members of the SCVA staff attended IPW (International Pow Wow) in San Antonio, TX, the largest travel trade show in the United States. We were joined by our colleagues at the New York State Division of Tourism to promote the Sullivan Catskills to people from all over the world as a travel destination.

We also co-sponsored the Upper Delaware Shadfest. The week-long event was held at various places around Sullivan County and celebrates the significance of the American shad to the region. The first weekend of Shadfest was held at the same time as Tap NY, one of the largest and longest running craft beer festivals in the country, held at Bethel Woods on May 20 and 21. Congratulations to our local breweries who took home some accomplished prizes.

Recently, we were part of a group of New York State destination marketing organizations that hosted a two-day event in the capital region to meet with meeting planners of associations, such as non-profits, colleges, agencies, and more to entice them to come to the Sullivan Catskills to hold their meetings, conferences, and events.

On June 8, we will be a part of the Empire State Society of Association of Executives, a one-day trade show event in Albany to promote the Sullivan Catskills to meeting planners.

Also in June the SCVA will host the quarterly Destination Marketing Organizations’ meeting at The Kartrite where CEOs and Directors of Sales will work together to strategically promote each of their destinations.

And moving into the summer months, we are excited to announce that more Doves will be added to the Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail.

From festivals to member events to trade shows, May was an exciting and active time. To learn more about the SCVA, please visit www.sullivancatskills.com or call 845-747-4449, or stop by our visitors center at 15 Sullivan Ave., Liberty, NY.
