SDG LPP warns against fraudulent letter

Posted

WAPPINGER FALLS, NY — The law firm of Stenger, Diamond & Glass, LLP (SDG) is advising the general public to ignore a fraudulent letter that has been mailed to numerous people, demanding payment for unpaid taxes.

The letter accuses the receiver of failing to pay taxes and threatens to seize the resident’s property and to garnish wages or social security benefits for non-payment.

Signed by a phony resolution officer, with a fake County Seal, the letter appears to be official at first glance and urges the receiver to call the toll-free number to make a payment in order to avoid further legal action.

“This is a scam, and under no circumstances, should anyone call the 1-800 number and make a payment of any kind,” says SDG partner Steve Diamond.  “No one should provide these individuals with personal information, such as a social security number or bank account information.  If anyone has received a letter like this one or knows someone who has been a victim of this scam, please contact our office as soon as possible, so that one of our attorneys can help.”
