Record number of students perform at Janice Center dance and instrumental recitals

An all-time high (for the fall session) 110 students of The Janice Center performed in December dance and instrumental recitals. The Dance Recital was held on December 17 at The Villa Roma Nightclub with 85 ballet, lyrical and hip hop students taking the audience through the four seasons with 13 originally-choreographed routines. Among some of the songs were Hazy Shade of Winter, Here Comes the Sun, September and Cruel Summer.

The instrumental recital was held Friday, December 15 at The Janice Center. Twenty-five piano, sax and guitar students, ranging in age from 5 to 38 performed, each playing at least two pieces, many three. A nostalgic moment came when Emma Ehrets played a duet on the piano with her mom Andrea, who took lessons from Janice Center owner Tanya Cohen 25 years ago. Emma is taking lessons at The Janice Center from Jeff Yeung, who also learned to play from Tanya in the early 2000s.

The Janice Center offers individual lessons in a variety of instruments including clarinet, guitar, flute, piano and saxophone.

Several students appeared in both the dance and music recitals. They were Jaelyn Brockner, Colby Gonzalez, Lilly Lynker, Arina Schumacher, Elaine Schumacher and Oliver Schumacher,

Dance is offered during a Fall Session and a Winter-Spring Session. The upcoming Winter-Spring session will begin February 10. Registration forms can be found online at http://www.janicecenter.com.

The Janice Center, located on Route 52 in Jeffersonville is a one-stop shop for the arts. In addition to dance and instrumental lessons, a popular Music Together program is offered for ages 0-4. For more information, please call 845-482-3324.
