Sullivan County Airport to get beautification from state budget

SWAN LAKE — New York State recently adopted its state budget. With this, the state will provide over $4.5 million for infrastructure projects, including the Sullivan County airport.

Over $288,000 will be used in beautifying the main entrance to the green terminal building. This is an effort to both aesthetically and practically enhance the attractiveness of the airport, according to Sullivan County Director of Communications Dan Hust.

“These additions will improve both the look and services of the airport as we position it to be more competitive and revenue-producing,” explained Hust.

Two ground power units  (GPUs) will also be installed to provide electricity to jets on the tarmac that are prepping for takeoff. This will also cater to refueling or other needs as they come up.

The work isn’t just focused on infrastructure either, as trees along the airport’s access road will be trimmed back and the new terminal’s public entrance will feature a curved stone wall.

“The county thanks Governor Hochul and our state legislators for agreeing with us that our County Airport is a valuable asset worthy of further investment,” stated Hust.

These improvements in Sullivan County are one of six infrastructure projects being done throughout the region. Other counties included in this $4.5 million are Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Ulster and Westchester.
