Sullivan Sheriff’s K-9 unit receives funding

MONTICELLO — On Thursday, April 18, local law firm Rutberg Breslow Personal Injury Law, was recognized by the Sullivan County Legislature for their generosity in donating $5,000 to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office to support their K-9 program.

The law firm, owned by Martin Rutberg and Lawrence Breslow, has locations in Monticello and Poughkeepsie. The donation helps to fund a new police dog and related equipment.

Strained by budgets, the Sheriff’s office had to put their K-9 program on pause after one dog died of an illness and another was struck by a vehicle several years ago.

“We wanted to reestablish our K-9 program, which we now have a deputy in the Orange County K-9 Academy with a dog,” Undersheriff Eric Chaboty said. “We want to acknowledge [Rutbert Breslow Law] for their dedication to the community and their support of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.”
