Sullivan West loses to Chapel Field, 42-35

LAKE HUNTINGTON – The Sullivan West Bulldogs hosted the Chapel Field Lions this past Friday night for Sullivan West’s second boys’ basketball game of the season. Both teams came to win but unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Chapel Field took home a close 42-35 victory.

Sullivan West came out with intensity in the first half with collapsing defense, hard driving offense and hustle all around. But the visiting Chapel Field Lions were able to create an early 18-6 lead, compliments of their mid-range shooters, and ability to secure offensive rebounds. Chapel Field widened the lead to 27-10 going into halftime.

After the break the Bulldogs turned up their intensity on defense to spark a comeback. Dylan Lockwood had multiple key blocks early on to stop Chapel Field from building any momentum, but the Bulldogs couldn’t seem to capitalize on offense until Alec Hubert hit a deep three halfway through the third quarter to finally break the ice. Through grit and tenacity, Sullivan West managed to start closing Chapel Field’s lead to within 3 points in the final quarter. But with only a few minutes left to play, it was too little too late, and Chapel Field closed out the game 42-35 over Sullivan West.

Coach Ronj Padu had this to say after the loss, “We’re a young team and don’t have much experience yet. We started off slow and our offensive is a bit stagnant, but we are going to come out stronger. The second half of this game showed that.”
