Sullivan West makes polling location change

Posted

LAKE HUNTINGTON –– The Sullivan West Central School District Board of Education passed a unanimous vote on Wednesday, March 1st, to move the current polling location from Sullivan West Elementary School to the Western Sullivan Public Library’s Jeffersonville Branch, less than a mile away.

Sullivan West Superintendent, Dr. Kathleen Bressler, told the Democrat this change will be in effect for the school budget vote on May 16, as well as for any and all future annual and special elections.

“In considering the safety and security of our students and staff, we asked the Board to consider moving the polling place to another location in the Village of Jeffersonville,” Bressler said.

Bressler noted that the Board of Education was in support of moving the polling locations since they are moving forward with security vestibules at both campuses and implementing one point of entry.

According to Bressler, the current polling system in Narrowsburg’s Branch of the Western Sullivan Public Library was looked at as a possible example by the board to follow.

The polling location will utilize the downstairs community space of the Public Library.

“We want to thank Western Sullivan Public Library Director, Audra Everett, and the [WSPL] Board of Trustees for allowing our district to use their facility,” Bressler said.

In coming months, Dr. Bressler noted that she and the Board of Education will be sharing further information with voters via mail, newspapers, social media, and signage at each polling location.
