Bulldogs defeat Wildcats in non-league clash

LIVINGSTON MANOR — The Sullivan West Lady Bulldogs had two close losses to start their season before getting back on track with wins on consecutive afternoons. After defeating Eldred on Tuesday, Sullivan West visited Wildcat Country on Wednesday afternoon to take on a young Livingston Manor program. A matchup that the Bulldogs won 15-0 in five innings.

Mental errors cost the Lady Wildcats early on, as they fell behind 5-0 in the first inning. Despite Sullivan West only knocking five hits in the game, they were able to draw walks and steal bases effectively to produce runs.

“The kids are playing well,” Sullivan West Coach Anthony Durkin said. “We were trying to get the bats going and make the most of our opportunities today.”

The Lady Bulldogs drew eight walks in the win, and their RBI leaders were Elizabeth Reeves (3), Sam Hellerer (3) and Meghan Kelly (2).

The Livingston Manor offense had some opportunities but were unable to break through for a score, stranding seven runners on base in the loss.

The Lady Wildcats had two hits on the afternoon, both of which came from the top of the order with Zaylee Cox and Kelsey Ryder knocking singles.

“I’ve seen a lot of improvement since the start of the season,” Livingston Manor Coach Nick Wyss said. “Our starting pitcher is an eighth grader in her first year of varsity, and 10 of our 14 girls either moved up from varsity or haven’t played before, so we’re learning every day.”
