Beer festival not returning to Bethel Woods

BETHEL — TAP NY, the craft beer festival previously held at Bethel Woods Center of the Arts for the past two years, has been canceled due to “creative differences” between Bethel Woods and TAP NY.

These differences come as a result of Bethel Woods’ recently refined mission in which events, concerts and other festivals must answer to the following questions:

  • Is it extraordinary?
  • Does it support an emerging artist?
  • Does it build upon our history of music and peace?
  • How will it help provide access to the arts?

According to Bethel Woods, the owners of TAP NY’s intentions with the festival did not match up with the updated mission of the non-profit, which seeks to amplify live music, access to the arts and engage emerging artists.

Prior to Bethel Woods being the venue, Hunter Mountain Ski Resort in Greene County, NY, hosted the festival. TAP NY will return to a new, unrevealed location in 2025. Refunds to ticket buyers will be automatic.

A history of winning

Independent Sullivan County breweries have made a name of themselves at the festival, with some taking home medals in state-wide competitions.

In 2022, Eldred-based Shrewd Fox Brewery won gold for best IPA, as well as earned the Governor’s Cup Award for their ‘3 Dog IPA.’

In 2023, Bridge and Tunnel Brewery in Liberty won the Governor’s Cup with their Milk and Oatmeal stout “Ol Gilmartin.”

Other local breweries that received recognition at the festival in the past include Catskill Brewery, Roscoe Beer Company and the former 17 West Brewery.

Still to come

A number of other planned Bethel Woods events, such as the Big Sip (October 5) and Catskill Cuisine (May 11) are scheduled to return as expected.

“We have a super exciting season planned, filled with exceptional pavilion performances, multi-day festivals, and a robust calendar of music, visual, performing and creative arts programs that all work to fulfil our mission,”said Susan Russ, Head of Marketing and Communications at Bethel Woods.

“Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, located at the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival, is committed to building on our rich history of peace and music by providing extraordinary experiences and access to the arts.”
