Volunteering one’s time to help others is a deed that should be recognized frequently.

We have great admiration for those who serve in our area’s fire departments and emergency response services.

They are using their time and energy to respond to calls, complete training, and help those in need; something that goes above and beyond what most people do in their everyday lives.

This past weekend was the Hortonville Fire Department’s annual Field Day, which kicked off with a parade of many of our area’s fire departments and EMS providers.

It was great to see such a big crowd attend the event, including families and young children.

Our county’s firefighters will also be recognized at the annual Sullivan County Volunteer Firefighters Association Parade on Saturday, September 6 in Monticello.

Fire companies, EMS personnel, marching bands and community members will gather on that day to honor those who continue to dedicate themselves to protecting Sullivan County.

It goes without saying that fire departments are always in need of volunteers; so take a moment to think about volunteering your time.

In a large county, we rely on each other’s help in our times of need.

So thank you firefighters!
