The Chatwal Lodge closes

WHITE LAKE – The Chatwal Lodge, a luxury resort located inside The Chapin Estate in the Town of Bethel, will close on May 24.

According to a post on its website, Hyatt will no longer operate The Chatwal Lodge, and the property will close permanently.

A request for comment from Hyatt was not answered by presstime.

“Reservations for May 25, 2026, and beyond cannot be honored,” the website states. “The hotel is working to notify affected guests and customers of this situation and assist them with requests for alternative arrangements or canceling reservations at no penalty.”

It is believed that the hotel employed around two dozen staff.

The hotel, opened in 2021, originally operated by Dream Hotel Group, which has a location in New York City called The Chatwal. Hyatt acquired the group in February of 2023.

The Chatwal Lodge property featured 12-14 rooms and an on-site restaurant, as well as event and wedding rental space.

The hotel is situated on the Toronto Reservoir and did offer water activities but stopped due to the reservoir’s low water levels. On the Hyatt website it says, “The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is overseeing repairs to the dam at the Toronto Reservoir. As part of this process, water levels have been lowered more than anticipated.”

The Chatwal Lodge’s opening signified a resurgence in hotels in the county, opening around the same time as Callicoon Hills and The Eldred Preserve, which was preceded by the openings of YO1 Wellness and Kenoza Hall and followed by The Hampton Inn in Monticello in 2022 and Hemlock Neversink in 2023.
