When undertaking a difficult new venture filled with uncertainty and risk, like starting a small business, it is always best to have a guide. You wouldn’t climb Mount Everest without a Sherpa, so why would entrepreneurship be any different? Here in Sullivan County, you never have to worry about fighting the good fight alone thanks to a dedicated organization that has since spanned five decades and counting.

For countless businesspeople in Sullivan County during the last 50 years, they have had the expertise and encouragement for just that type of venture in the form of the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce, who celebrated their golden anniversary last Thursday at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon.

Three-hundred, twenty-eight business owners, politicians, supporters, friends and family members gathered to honor the annual Pride Award winners, who were handpicked by the Chamber’s board members for outstanding recognition in their fields as entrepreneurs and community-oriented individuals.

In a ceremony that matched the esteem of the 50th anniversary, award winners gave their speeches to thunderous applause. The sight was a clear sign that the various industries that uphold the economic environment of the county are not only surviving, but thriving as part of a larger community.

Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce for being there for so many leaders. Thank you to those leaders for choosing Sullivan County to build their worlds. And of course, thank you to the customers who give their hard-earned dollars to support hometown businesses. We are all in this economic effort together, and each purchase, handshake and heart-to-heart connection elevates everyone who calls this place home. Under the guidance of the Chamber of Commerce for half of a century, the business scene in our communities is on the up and up still, adapting and overcoming many obstacles.

Congratulations to all the award winners – each was appropriately recognized and we look forward to the enduring future of all that was given the stage by the Chamber’s glowing, golden guiding light.
