MONTICELLO –– Resorts World Catskill played host again for the fourth year to the Monster Classic 5K & 10K Runs. Participants were also able to participate in a 5K Walk. In its 47th year since inception the race drew over 200 runners to the line.

Although there were many participants that have a history with this course, others in attendance were first timers. Jaime Abraham, a first time Monster runner finished at the top in the 5K Run in the female 40–49 year-old age group with a time of 28:11.

After Abraham crossed the finished line, she shared, “I’ve been training since February on the treadmill and in July I moved to the pavement running, but only a few times.” She [Abraham] was inspired by another race participant, Giovanni Gutierrez who also finished first in the 10K in his age group with a time of 43:40.

Cathy Chisolm from Putnam County put her sneakers to the pavement this year for the first time to run the course. The Monster Run also known as the Monster Classic is organized by a host of volunteers.

Peter Chester of Sullivan Central Rotary shared, “It gets better every year. We partnered with our fellow Rotarians from the Monticello Rotary Club to help put together this wonderful community event. This year the run attracted runners from 8-89 years old.”
