MONTICELLO — The Town of Thompson announced today that it is seeking input from the public on the Town’s comprehensive plan update. Also called a “master plan” the comprehensive plan is a document that provides direction on policy recommendations about future land use and development in the Town.
“A committee appointed by the Town Board has been working for the past year on identifying key issues facing the Town and drafting a vision for the future, along with corresponding goals and objectives,” explained Director of Community Development, Jill Weyer. “We are at a point now where we would like to check in with the public to get some constructive feedback, including ideas for specific projects or policy recommendations that should be included in the plan that align with that vision.”
To that end, a public information session will be held on Tuesday, April 9th at 7PM at the Town Hall at Thompson Square Mall in Monticello. Thompson’s planning consultant, Delaware Engineering, will give a brief overview of the work that has been completed to date on the plan, and will present the results of an on-line survey and other public outreach conducted last Summer. The draft vision statement, goals and objectives will also be presented, and attendees will have an opportunity to share their ideas as part of a facilitated discussion.
Anyone who lives in the Town of Thompson (including the Village of Monticello), and is interested in learning more about the planning process is encouraged to attend. Additional information and a feedback form can also be found at www.thompsontogether.com. A preliminary draft of the updated comprehensive plan is expected to be released for public comment by August.
