Thompson sets public hearings for sewer upgrades, planning

Posted

MONTICELLO – The Town of Thompson has scheduled four public hearings for early September, for sewer system upgrades, two proposed sewer district expansions and the town’s new comprehensive plan.

Sewer Bond The first hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, will address a proposed $4.9 million bond to improve infrastructure within the Rock Hill/Emerald Green Consolidated Sewer District. The project includes rehabilitation and replacement of sewer mains, manholes, laterals and related system components.

According to the engineer’s report presented at the Town of Thompson Town Board meeting, the project area includes multiple locations throughout the district where sewer lines have experienced infiltration and deterioration. Upgrades are needed to reduce maintenance costs, improve flow efficiency, and prevent future system failures.

Furthermore, according to town documents, the cost would be funded through bonding and repaid through annual assessments on properties within the district. A State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) found that the project will not result in significant adverse environmental impacts.

Sackett Lake Sewer

Also on September 2, the board will hold two public hearings related to sewer expansions in the Sackett Lake area.

One hearing concerns a request to extend the existing sewer district to include a residential parcel owned by Ari Jacobs.

The second hearing on that date involves a larger extension—labeled Sackett Lake Sewer District Extension #6—related to the proposed Fraser Resort.

The developer, Gibber Holdings, plans to build a lodging and recreation facility and is seeking to connect the site to the town’s sewer system. The board also approved the project’s water, sewer and developer agreements during the August 19 meeting.

Comprehensive Plan  Scheduled

A public hearing will take place on Tuesday, September 16. The board is looking for public comment upon the town’s Draft Comprehensive Plan, which outlines updated goals for zoning, land use, infrastructure and housing.

Project maps, engineering reports and copies of the Draft Comprehensive Plan are available for public inspection at the Town Clerk’s Office during regular business hours.
