Town elections are largely uncontested

REGION — While many local and township races were uncontested this year, there were a few that had more than one candidate.

The results as of yesterday are unofficial pending the counting of absentee ballots next week and certification of the election by the state.

Village of Woodridge Mayor Joan Collins won her seat for re-election in a close race with 110 votes (48.67%). Ricardo Nieves, Jr. got 97 votes (42.92%), Anthony Forrest got 10 votes (4.42%), and Louis Saperstein got 9 votes (3.98%).

The race for Woodridge Village Trustee included four candidates vying for two seats. The winners are Ronald Kates with 120 votes (31.33%) and Steven Levy with 108 votes (28.2%). Alexander Pomansky got 62 votes (16.19%) and James Slater 33 votes (8.62%).

Town of Fremont had two candidates to fill one vacant position on the Town Council. Republican John Hubert won with 347 votes (64.26%) against Democrat James Greier with 193 votes (35.74%).

Also in the Town of Fremont Zoanne Deckelman ran on the Republican line for Town Justice and received 382 votes.

Town of Rockland has a very tight race for Town Justice, which is too close to call. Karrie Jara ran on the Democratic and Justice lines and received 516 votes (37.69%), followed by Scott Steingart who ran on the Republican and Independence lines and got 514 votes (37.55%), and Richard Dame ran on the Conservative line and got 339 votes (24.76%).

Two candidates were vying for Tax Collector in the Town of Thompson. Winner Heather Berg ran on the Democratic and Conservative lines and received 2,295 votes (53.2%) against Republican Wendy Wells with 2,015 votes (46.71%).

The Town of Cochecton had one candidate to fill a vacancy as Town Clerk. Maryann Oumrim ran on the Republican line and got 411 votes.

Town of Delaware had one candidate for Town Justice. Eric Nystrom ran on the Republican, Conservative and Independence lines and garnered 660 votes. Democrat Scott DuBois was elected to fill a vacancy on the Town Board. He received 599 votes.

Town of Fallsburg had one candidate for Town Justice. Robert Scheinman ran on the Democratic, Conservative and Independence lines and got 2,222 votes.

Village of Woodridge had one candidate for Village Justice. Bart Rasnick received 66 votes.

Town of Highland had one candidate for Town Justice. Anthony LaRuffa ran on the Republican, Conservative and Independence lines and garnered 765 votes.

Town of Liberty had one candidate for Town Council. Democrat Maurice Gerry received 1,730 votes.
