CALLICOON — Callicoon firefighters responding to a working structure fire in Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon had to pass through the community's annual Tractor Parade after participants moved their vehicles aside to clear a path for emergency vehicles.
According to the Callicoon Fire Department, Station 63 was dispatched at 12:21 p.m. June 14 to assist the Equinunk Fire Department at a working structure fire. The department was requested to respond with its ladder, tanker and engine.
Chief Willie Maxwell said firefighters were cleaning up following the department's annual pancake breakfast when the call came in.
At the same time, the Callicoon Tractor Parade was taking place on Lower Main Street. Maxwell said tractors briefly moved aside to allow responding emergency vehicles to pass.
"We just snuck through the side of them to get through," Maxwell said.
Callicoon firefighters were responding as mutual aid to the Pennsylvania department, which covers a large rural area. Maxwell said the fire was brought under control before Callicoon crews reached the scene.
"We tried to get there as quick as possible," Maxwell said. "Thank God they got it out."
